Caution: rant ahead! Look away if you are of a sensitive disposition!
It has been truly astounding to experience the ability of weddings to flush the snakes from the grass of life. Family, friends, colleagues and authors have long counselled me on such matters, but never for one moment did I imagine I would actually have to confront such issues.
Anyway, after a very trying week dealing with decades of accumulated emoti-trash, I have a message for any soon-to-be-weds out there: It’s YOUR day and NO-ONE should believe they have a right to dictate terms to you. If you encounter issues from
anyone, here’s my in-a-nutshell strategy guide:
- Before considering their issues, consider their motivation. Whose interests do they really have at heart?
- Make your decisions quickly, confidently and don’t second-guess yourself. You are in charge here and your happiness is really all that matters. Better these issues be resolved now, before they potentially ruin your big day.
- Whatever the outcome, take a deep breath, chalk it all up to experience and move on!
